TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.
Based on journalist Mitch Albom’s real-life relationship with his former college professor Morrie Schwartz, “Tuesdays with Morrie” is an inspiring drama that chronicles the renewed bond which develops 16 years after graduation between Mitch Albom and his former college professor, Morrie Schwartz. The audience is invited into their weekly Tuesday visits – conversations filled with humor, wisdom, and soul-searching truths about what really matters in life.
The essential part of Morrie’s lessons is dedicated to life and death. Morrie knows that he will die soon, but he has assumed a mantra: “when you know how to die, you know how to live”. Every day of life should be valued, as it may be the last one.
This play features musical standards like The Very Thought of You, and All the Things You Are, which highlight the theme of this story – that a life is not measured by what you make, but by what you make of it. This production is suitable for ages twelve and older, and parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring their families.
